While flying RCAF 403 "City of Calgary" Sqn Spitfire AR440 from Catterick, Yorkshire, engaged RCAF Wellington BJ695 in dummy attack during training and upon emerging from a cloud collided with it breaking the tail off his plane and sending the bomber into a dive that ended in a crash and fire killing all five crew. Norman was killed upon diving into a river near Ing's Bridge not far from Pickering. Surv. Parents, Peter and Elsie Norman of Detroit, Michigan, USA.ÂÂ
