Interesting Facts

  • Son of Michael and Emily Saruk of Winnipeg, MB. Husband of Lena Saruk, also of Winnipeg. Father of Sharon Dale. Brother of one sister (unnamed). Fluent in English and Ukrainian.

    Recipient of the 1939-1945 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, the War Medal, and the CVSM and Clasp. An account of Rifleman Saruk's brave and successful attempt in taking out a pill box that had been annihilating the his unit from his LCA is provided in Mark Zeuhlke's book 'Juno Beach: Canada's D-Day Victory June 6, 1944.'
