Trained Montreal, Toronto and Jarvis. overseas to NFLD Sep. 1942. Early morning 9 Dec 1942 two Castalina flying boats were detailed to escort the battleship Queen Elizabeth from new York Harbour. Dayton's plane crashed into sea from a low altitude breaking in two and killing six crew members. His body was recovered 36 hours later and returned home.
