Son of Edward and Elizabeth (nee Cashen) Bowes, of Newcastle, NB.
At the time of his death, F/Sgt. Bowes’ death was on assignment to RAF 132 MU. The unit was created on Jun 1, 1942 on the edge of Cairo, Egypt. It was sent to Gaza in July when the German forces were advancing towards Cairo, then returned to Egypt in October when the German threat had passed. They were in Gaza for a period of less than four months.
