Son of Julius Evers of Parry Sound, ON. Husband of Jeanette Hummel Evers of Trout Creek, ON.
After enlisting (originally with the 162nd Battalion) at Trout Creek in January 1916, Duff completed his work-up training at Camp Niagara, in Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON. He was part of the scout platoon, which would be considered Recce or Recon soldiers, and were considered specially skilled in marksmanship, field craft and stealth.
Duff was killed in action on April 12, 1918, during the battle known as the Spring Offensive. This battle started in March 1918 as the Germans attempted to counter-attack, specifically to retake the highly valued Vimy Ridge (which had been taken by Canadians and was being held by the Canadian Corp at this time). Duff was killed while conducting a 'side-step' move with the 4th Battalion along the line from the area of Oppy trench to the north towards Arleaux. During this move, Duff was hit by Shell Fire. His death was recorded in the War Diary of platoon-mate Major L.F. Pearce.
At the time of his death, Duff was a new father of son Adolphus 'Duff' Ralph Evers, who was born in 1917 while Duff was serving overseas.
