A long-time member of the Canadian Railway troops, Major Elliott was highly thought of by his men. His obituary published in the Toronto Evening Telegram on October 9, 1917, quotes one of his men saying "he never left us when we were in a tight fix." Survived by wife Mabel Jessie Elliott, and his four children.
