Interesting Facts

  • Enteric Fever, the scourge of sedentary troops in South Africa, struck Baden Powell's SAC hard as it had other units, sapping its morale. Many caught it while passing through Bloemfontein, where Conan Doyle's hospital was the epicentre of the disease. It killed 28 canadian constables, whereas 12 died in combat.
