Unveiling Ceremony

On 1 November 2025, after 15 years of planning and fund raising, the 'National Memorial to the Fallen' was finally unveiled in Macdonald Park in Kingston, Ontario, Canada right beside the historic Murney Tower fortification on Kingston’s waterfront. The guest of honour was former Chief of Defence Staff of the Canadian Armed Forces, General (Retired) Walt Natynczyk. The memorial, funded entirely through advertisements from Canadian businesses in the virtual version of our magazine Remembrance/Souvenir, honours the over 120,000 Canadian service personnel who have died in service to Canada over the past 200+ years. The National Wall of Remembrance Association (NWORA), which was responsible for planning and building the memorial, also maintains a virtual memorial, annually produces the magazine Remembrance/Souvenir, and conducts several secondary programmes to include: a Community Memorials Programme; an Education Outreach Programme; a Scholarship Programme; and a Flag Programme. 'A space for the living, shaped by the lives of the fallen' - Kingston Whig
The monument is a partnership between the association and the City of Kingston, dedicated to honouring Canadian veterans who lost their lives during military conflicts.
Lieut.-Colonel (retd.) Louis Cyr, the secretary treasurer of the NWORA, led the ceremony.
According to Cyr, it took 15 years of planning and fundraising for the monument to come to fruition.
The welcoming kiosk that directs visitors to the four monuments was the first to be revealed.
A significant monument of its own, the kiosk’s bronze relief was designed by artist Sylvia Pecota, a professional photographer who was on hand to shoot the event.
