Interesting Facts

  • Officer Class I Gerard Joseph McEachern, No. 489 Squadron RNZAF. On May 19, 1943, he had finished his tour of duty and was supposed to be going home, but took one last flight as a favour for a friend who was too sick to fly. He took off from RAF Station Skitten in Scotland. He was shot down over the North Sea that day and was never found. - Catherine McEachern (Neice)
