    Born in Toronto, attended Medicine Hat, Alta HS and after an outstanding academic career graduated BSc mining Engineering, University of Alberta, winning the IODE Scholarship. Hobbies stamp-collecting, target shooting and riding. Enl Calgary Sep 1940. Trained Regina, Sea Island, Calgary and Charlottetown. Overseas Oct 1941. His father, LCol LH Dawson, died in 1930 of wounds received in 1915 and 1916 in France. Surv. Mother, Mrs Phyllis Dawson of West Summerland, BC., a sister, Nursing Sister Louise Dawson RCAF, George in Montreal, Mrs. Griffin Harvey in England and Phyllis at home.
