Interesting Facts

  • Born in Windsor, Ont. Educated at St. Francis School and Assumption College. Enl.RCNVR Barracks at Windsor 10 May 1940. lost on HMCS Spikenard, reported sunk 19 Feb 1942, believed torpedoed. All five officers and fifty-two of the sixty ratings were lost. The eight survivors were picked up by an RN corvette and taken to British port. Spikenard had spent many weeks at sea that winter on convoy duty in the North Atlantic. It is believed that she broke up and sank within minutes of torpedoing. Surv. Mother, Mrs. AJ Gilboe and an aunt, Mrs. H. Lesperance, both of Windsor.
