  • Born Polesworth, Warwickshire, England and to Brampton, Ont. at age 6.Acquired unusual knowledge of radio. At 13 granted Amateur Radio Licence and set up transmitter making contact with European stations. Youngest student to enter Toronto Radio College. At 17 empl. radio stations at Kirkland Lake and Timmins, Ont., Canada's youngest professional radio operator. First boy from his home town to enlist.Served on HMCS Bras d'Or, HMCS Andre Dupre and, prior to loss, for 18 months as Chief Wireless Operator aboard HMCS Spikenard, of which only eight ratings and no officers survived. The corvette had been at sea many weeks on convoy duty at the time she was torpedoed, broke up and sank within minutes. Surv. parents at Dundalk, Ont.
