Interesting Facts

  • Born at Moose Jaw, Sask. 22 Oct 1920., Lived at Druid, where his father was CPR station agent. Attended Wynward Public Schooland graduated Grade Twelve at Kelfield High School. His hobby was music and he played in local orchestras to finance the study of aeronautics. Still a student when he enlisted in Oct 1940. Trained at Regina and Yorkton. Overseas to Britain and Middle East. Became famous in Canada when he shot down a Junkers 52 loaded with German troops over the Mediterranean 12 May 1942. On 30 May he was reported missing after he deliberately rammed a Messersmitt 109 in the air at Acroma, near Tobruk, Libya bringing both planes down.
