Interesting Facts

Though reported dead in one account on 6 Oct 1940, this may have been the date of the accident; his headstone at Brookwood Cemetery, Woking, Surrey, has 10 Oct 1940. At this time the unit was stationed at Guillemont Barracks near Farnborough, Hampshire, undergoing section weapons training while the Battle of Britain was in full spate overhead. A man named Brown had recently been Killed in a motorcycle accident involving a truck.

A resident of Langruth, Manitoba and sometime student at Winnipeg Agricultural College, Allardyce served from August 1918 to "Spring" 1919. He re-enlisted in Calgary on 13 Sep 1939, three days after Canada Declared war. One record shows that he joined the unit that later became the South Alberta Regiment and went overseas as the South Alberta Light Horse. Given the date of his death it was most likely from a training accident in Canada and possibly after transferring to the Calgary Highlanders. Survivecd by mother, Mrs. J.M.
