    Lt. Patterson was born on 05 Mar 1896 in Wanstead, UK to parents Arthur H. and Nellie T. Patterson. Brother of Arthur and Dorothy. Before enlisting with the 31st Battery, C.F.A. at Niagara ON in September 1915, Lt. Patterson was a student at McGill University in Montreal, QC. Appointed Lieutenant on 17 Nov 1915 before transferring to the 10th Battery, 3rd Brigade. Served in France and Belgium. Lost his left hand after sustaining shellfire to his left forearm and thigh during operations near St.Eloi France on May 31, succumbed to his wounds in hospital the next day. He was 20 years old.
