Born in Portage la Prairie, MB. Educated at McGregor Public and High School and lived at Glenboro. MB. Worked at Bank of Montreal and learned to fly at Brandon Flying Club. Enl. RAF in England 11 May 1936, where he was nicknamed "Hilly."After being reported "Missing," on 25 May 1942 was reported "Presumed Dead."But he was not.He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for playing a major part in the destruction of the Maastricht Bridge.For his outstanding performance flying a Hurricane during the Battle of Britain he was awarded a bar to his DFC, in effect, a second DFC. For his general performance during the Battle of France, he was recommended for the Frwnch Croix de Guerre, but it was never presented owing to the collapse of the French Government. He was awarded the Czechoslovakian Flying Cross. He was shot down by enemy ack-ack during operations over Sicily. Unm. Surv. Parents, Glenboro, MB.
