Faits intéressants

  • Hurley was born in St Brigid de Laval, near Quebec city to Mr. Mrs John and R. Hurley, descendants of Irish Famine refugees who settled towns in St. Brigid's area. During 14th Bn CEF (RMR)'s sojourn in England, he won the Cross-country Championship Medal of the Commonwealth Armies in England. In France he was wounded three times. On the day he died as a 21-year-old lieutenant he was awarded the DCM and the French Medaille Militaire, both medals normally awarded to Other Ranks for bravery. The medals had thus been earned and recommended some time before he was commissioned, either for separate incidents or for the same one. The 14th Battalion War Diary or recently-published RMR regimental history would tell the story. Surv. Mrs. R. Hurley, 8 Lachevrotiere St., Quebec city.
