  • NPAM Major commissioned as brevet Captain A Coy 2 SS Bn RCRI.

    The 40-year-old 'A' Coy captain was wounded on Bloody Sunday 18 Feb 1900 at first battle of Paardeberg; DOW 23 Feb 00. Reported The Globe 27 Feb 00.

    On the bank of the Modder River, 'A' Coy Cmdr Arnold, using field glasses to view enemy, was hit in the head. Three stretcher-bearers were hit carrying him. Seeing that, Bn Surgeon-Capt E. Fiset rushed forward, dressed his wound and carried him from the field under fire.

    Buried Vendusiedrift Garden of Remembrance.

    Arnold was a popular man in Winnipeg. The Winnipeg Operatic Society donated a life-sized portrait to the national drive to create memorials. His friends erected a "beautiful memorial window" at All saints' Anglican Church in Winnipeg.
