Born in the village of Felsham in Suffolk, England to parents George and Susannah Ellen Dempster (Nee Osbourne). He emigrated to Canada around 1913 and enlisted shortly after the death of his father. He enlisted with the 11th reserve and was later transferred to the 27th battalion. Ted is commemorated on his parent's grave as well as being remembered on the Vimy Ridge Memorial.
