Enlisted with the 54th Bttn (Kootenay) and was transferred to the 2nd Tunneling Coy. before being dispatched overseas. On June 2nd, 1916, Collings was wounded in battle and taken to a dressing station at Maple Copse. Later that day, the station fell into enemy hands and Collings was taken prisoner. He later died on June 9.
