  • Daughter of Thomas and Ethel McBride, of Carp, Ontario. Her father Thomas was a retired farmer. Mona enjoyed knitting, sports and going out dancing. Before enlisting with the 103rd Depot Coy. C.W.A.C. at Barriefield, ON in July 1942, McBride was known for her extensive work with the church, as well as the youth in her community.

Although she served in Canada only and did not see action overseas, Sergeant McBride was known by her superiors as "alert, reliable and amiable." From very early on, she was considered one of the most capable army clerks and was admired by her peers for how quickly and efficiently she adjusted to army life. Her work involved issuing transport warrants for candidates and issuing gasoline etc. for C.A.A.S. vehicles.

Sergeant McBride was killed in a train accident while on furlough near Carp, ON in June 1944. Commemorated on Page 382 of the Second World War Book of Remembrance
