Interesting Facts

  • Born in Calgary AB, son of immigrants from the Isle of Lewis, Scotland, Norman and Marion MacIver. Enl while still a student 13 March 1941 in Calgary. Awarded his wings 5 Dec (41. In March 1942 became an instructor at RAF 15 (P) AFU) (Pilots Advanced Flying Unit based at Leconfield, Yorkshire and satellite facilities at Kirmington, Lincolnshire. (21 Group), after a short attachment at 1513 Beam Approach Training Flight and at No. 2 Flying Instructor School.Took off from Acaster Malbis airfield with a pupil for night flying training at 1945 hrs. While descending from 600 feet during poor visibilty, Oxford Trainer AP 395 struck a tree near Escrickat 2020 hrs. Both men were treated at York Military Hospital where upon admission MacIver died. The RNZAF pupil died three days later.
